Stars of Brazil - Bossa Nova on the Green with Oscar Castro-Neves, Leny Andrade and Romero Lubambo, Claudi Villela Band and Brasilia
Spend a splendid afternoon on the green at Healdsburg's Recreation Park, tapping your toes or dancing to the rhythms of Brazil. Bossa nova composer/arranger/guitarist Oscar Castro-Neves has been in the groove since the early 1960s, as one of the Bossa Nova pantheon (with Antonio Carlos Jobim and Joao Gilberto). Returning this year is Leny Andrade, widely hailed as Brazil's greatest living jazz singer, and creator of 'samba jazz', playing on stage with another superlative musician, New York-based guitarist Romero Lubambo. Other acts on the afternoon bill includes the inventive singer Claudia Villela, whose international reputation as a performer and composer has continued to grow through appearances at the worlds most prestigious jazz festivals and clubs. Her band for this performance includes Ricardo Peixoto, Gary Brown and Paul Vanwanagagen. Also playing will be Brasilia, an outstanding Brazilian jazz group that features the extraordinary and versatile vocals of Pamela Driggs and the original compositions and arrangements of Ted Moore. They will also be joined by Gary Brown on bass and Romero Lubambo on guitar.
